SEV Indosat, wazzup ?

SEV (System Elektronic Voucher) is a special card with STK (System Tool Kit) issued by Indosat, its function is to reload Indosat’s prepaid card (Mentari and IM3) using STK. Basically it was a SMS command, so it was depend on SMS traffic.

On first launching ( I guess it was middle 2006), was very interesting. It is fast, easy, and good price, and every single reload depot try to it best to use it, and left the short code reload service, for its good performance. Very interesting. To reload reseller wallet is very simple, for example Rp 100.000,- deposit is just pay the nominal minus percentage of bonus, it was about 4%, and if he sell for certain voucher denomination, wallet will deducted as it.

But recently, the disaster time is coming, it start with new method for calculating, debit reseller wallet system, price voucher denomination, and reply system.

First just take a look for scheme below:

SEV Scheme

We see very complicated calculation for every single transaction, and we can imagine how the server will overcome those long algorithm. The next problem is about pricing which is not equivalent to denomination, better to me to not show the price list here. Some people will enjoy this new price version for big denomination because of its low price starts from Rp 50.000; but how many percent did customer reload to these big denomination? against the low one?

The top of the problem is, no current balance informed in sms reply!. Just imagine like this, If a reload depot sends sms for reload transaction, he will send second sms for query balance. It means there are two sms’s send for single transaction, and if every reload depot do the same thing, it will affect to sms traffic to double size!!. If Indosat preserve 20% of sms capacity for sms transaction, because of this new scheme will double to 40%, and whole sms traffic will reach to 120% beyond capacity.!!!

So I’m not surprised if Indosat’s sms will take more long time (if not failed) to reach it destination, or sms transaction will often fail or pending or worst of them is miscalculated on peak time or on national holidays, as long as this scheme still applied.
